The future relies on history - A brief history of E+L
The story of the technical development from uncontrolled running webs to process-controlled web guiding is the history of Erhardt+Leimer. In the course of over 80 years the manufacturer of industrial clocks and recording systems developed into a world renown, competent partner for system solutions on running web for the textile, paper, corrugated, plastics, tire, rubber and nonwovens industries.
1919
  • Founded by Manfred Erhardt, the company supplies and services industrial clocks and recording systems.
1925
  • Albert Leimer, an electrician mechanic, joins the company and sets up a precision workshop.
1933
  • The firm’s founder, Manfred Erhardt, dies.
1935
  • Development and manufacture of the first precision made accessories for the textile industry commence.
1943
  • Albert Leimer becomes partner of Manfred Erhardt+Co.
  • Annual turnover amounts to 420.000.- reichsmark. The company has a workforce of 15.
1949
  • Development and manufacture of web guiding equipment to control webs in the textile industry commence.
1950
  • New offices and workshops open in Augsburg.
  • The production of web guiding equipment for the textile industry accelerates so fast that further manufacturing facilities are erected on the Augsburg site.
     
1955
  • New office facilities are erected in Augsburg, Leitershoferstrasse.
1960
  • Business activities in the paper and film industry commence.
1966
  • Building activities for a new plant in Leitershofen (district of Augsburg) for a generous enlargement of premises and factory equipment
1972
  • Albert Leimer dies. Erhardt+Leimer loses its founder and the textile machinery industry one of its outstanding post-war entrepreneurs.
     
  • The company is managed by his heirs.
1977
  • Hannelore Leimer, daughter of Albert Leimer, becomes Chairman of the Board..
1978
  • E+L headquarters in Augsburg move to the newly erected premises in Leitershofen, on the western outskirts of Augsburg.
1979
  • The international importance of the Erhardt&Leimer group can be recognized by the fact that it is the largest manufacturer in the world of accessories for automation in the textile finishing industry and one of the leading manufacturers of web guiding sys­tems for the paper and film industries.
1982
  • Workforce at the Augsburg site totals 420 including 70 apprentices. Overall annual turnover amounts to 40 Mio. DM.
     
1986
  • Albert Leimer Foundation is created. Hannelore Leimer becomes Chairman..
     
  • The mother company employs 500 persons and reports a turnover of 60 Mio. DM.
1988
  • An industrial survey places Erhardt+Leimer amongst the top 60 most successful limited liability companies in Germany.
1995
  • A new digital technology called DCS is introduced as E+L standard control technology.
1996
  • Dr. Michael Proeller, grandson of the company founder Albert Leimer, joins the Board of Directors of Erhardt+Leimer GmbH on July 1. He assumes responsibility for finance and accounting of the entire group of companies.
2000
  • E+L gets into the field of inspection and camera technology for the purpose of a new strategic alignment of the company.
2001
  • ELSIS camera for surface inspection is successfully introduced to the market.
     
2003
  • Erhardt+Leimer presents its first fully digital web inspection system ELSCAN during Labelexpo in Brussels.
     
2004
  • The parent company Erhardt+Leimer Augsburg celebrates its 85th anniversary.
     
  • Erhardt+Leimer introduces itself at DRUPA exhibition as turn key solution provider for the printing industry by showing products for web guiding (ELGUIDER), web monitoring (ELSCAN) and web
    inspection (ELSIS).
2005
  • At the end of the year turnover of the mother company amounts to 50 Mio. Euro with a workforce of 420.
     
  • Total turnover of the E+L group amounts to 100 Mio. Euro with a workforce of 1000 worldwide.
