The basics for web width control are two bowed rollers split in the middle. Depending on their angle of engagement into the web these two mechanically coupled rollers will either stretch of condense the tire cord threads.

Spreading system for controlling the width of textile tire cord. The threads are either condensed or spread by two bowed spreading rollers with cylindrical center pieces. According to the sensor signals these rollers engage into the web more or less heavily, each side operating independently from the other. Roller control is motorized.
