ERHARDT+LEIMER PROVIDES A COMPLETE WEFT CONTROL SOLUTION
Erhardt+Leimer Inc is pleased to announce the sale of a complete Elstraight and Elcount installation to a knitted automotive fabrics manufacturer in the Southeastern United States.
The customer approached E+L to provide a solution that would reduce off quality production, which reached as high as 25% due to uncontrolled bow and skew distortions. Additionally, the customer is required to maintain a specific bow and skew tolerance of < 10mm throughout 400mm in the cross direction. Before E+L became involved, their only choice was to measure fabric at the batching stations, and reframe off-quality rolls until they passed inspection. This resulted in a loss of production efficiency, which cost the company thousands of dollars.
The solution proposed by E+L included the installation of an Elstraight Weft Straightener at the entry of the tenter frame, and the Elstraight Mini at the exit of the frame. Both systems utilize CCD Matrix Camera Detection Technology. The Elstraight removes the gross distortion at the entry to the frame, and the Elstraight Mini makes the final correction, resulting in fabric that falls within specification. Upon completion of the installation, off quality was reduced by 23%!
As a further enhancement to the customer’s process they chose to include the Elcount Pick and Course Measurement and Control System in order to control the pick density of fabric at the tenter. This system also utilizes the CCD Matrix Camera Technology and allows the customer to accurately measure, adjust, and maintain correct density of fabric at the exit of the frame. This is accomplished by comparing measurements taken at the entry and exit of the frame and using this differential calculation to adjust the tenter overfeed. By adjusting the overfeed, a consistent density is maintained at the tenter exit. This solution will provide payback by reducing rejections due to low pick and increased fabric yield.
